Dia dhuit, I'm Ben.

I enjoy making sense of things - the more complex the problem, the more satisfying the outcome. I try to leverage all aspects of my experience, whether design related or not. I have a natural curiosity that always pushes me to explore, investigate and understand what I don’t know.. as well as being a practical thinker who focuses on what works now and what steps will actually move things forward. While I like to think I was once an optimist who could promise to deliver any possible design you wanted, I am now very much a realist. I think that comes from the last 7 years of designing in financial services.

Most of my career has been in the finance world, which is ironic considering I dropped every finance related subject in school as soon as I could. But it has taught me quite a bit.. how to balance strict regulations with creativity, how to work with tight constraints without losing empathy and how to design with precision without overcomplicating things. It’s made me a more adaptable, detail focused designer who can think strategically when it counts.

Outside of work, I've been a keen gamer ever since I discovered Miniclip games on our families first computer. My very first job was actually designing multiplayer maps on a Grand Theft Auto server, pretty much like the Sims.. Since then I've tried my hand at streaming and competitive gaming. Away from my computer, I'm big into football which I play a couple of times a week, as well as golf, where I lose more golf balls than I find.

I've been living in Toronto since 2023, after living in Ireland all my life.. and I'm excited to stay here to see what the future holds.

I'm Ben.

Uninstall cliche-ness

I’m a designer who thrives on solving complex problems with clarity and intent. I've helped to scale internal design functions, lead strategic initiatives and deliver high impact solutions through product, service and visual design.

What drives me most is creating intuitive, meaningful experiences that feel effortless from the first interaction. I take time in understanding users motivations, frustrations and the context around their decisions, so I can shape journeys that feel natural, considered and genuinely usable. I (try to) enjoy transforming intricate systems into engaging solutions where every detail has purpose.

Most of my career has unfolded in the financial space - an unlikely path for someone who dropped all finance related subjects as soon as I could.. but working in this field has taught me to balance precision, regulation and complexity with creativity and empathy, shaping me into a detail oriented designer who adapts easily and thinks strategically.

I'm currently based in Toronto, but proudly come from the midlands of Ireland. I graduated from Maynooth University with a BSc in Product Design and a MSc in Design Innovation. In recent years, I've partnered and worked with companies such as BNP Paribas, Hewlett Packard, Eventfuel and Dublin Airport. I'm currently working as a Senior Designer @ Citco.
